I agree with your review in that it is a stunningly beautiful film and that there were a lot of holes in the movie. Although, if he did explain everything you mentioned the movie would have been way longer than 3 hours. Which is why I think he should have done a 3 part series like Star Wars or LOTR. Even though it was 3 hours, I still felt jipped. The storyline was reminiscent of Dances With Wolves, but on a much larger scale. It was all predictable, you knew what was going to happen. However, I think the fact that the special effects are so incredible out weighs the fact that the storyline was in your words “thin”. Nonetheless, I’m hoping that he does a sequal where the humans come back or something. There’s no way people will stay away for long with unobtainium in an abundance there, right? He could delve into reasons like what they use the rock for, or why he left earth, or what he left behind on earth, and so on and so on. Overall, I would highly recommend this movie in IMAX 3D. It is absolutely amazing.
On another note, I highly agree with you on less MR and more GR. That guy is a great actor. Even though he doesn’t say it, you can tell by his expressions that he is struggling with exterminating the Na’avi.
